Artist Bio

Brittany M. Watkins is an interdisciplinary artist, gallery director, and educator based in Columbia, SC. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from The University of West Georgia with a concentration in sculptural ceramics and a Master’s Degree in studio art from Florida State University. During her graduate studies, she discovered a passion for fostering contemporary art in the Southern United States. This led her to take an active role in curatorial projects and artist-run spaces. She has served as the Director of Goodall Gallery at Columbia College, since Fall 2023. She also teaches three-dimensional design at the University of South Carolina.

Brittany's large-scale installations have received notable accolades including the South Carolina Arts Commission State Fellowship FY24, South Arts State Fellowship FY22, and ArtFields’ Juried Panel Prize 2017. Her work as an educator, community advocate, and artist are shaped by personal experiences with mental health, cognitive impairments, and trauma; the idea of home remains a foundational thematic thread across her work. She is currently re-imagining her most recent installation, The Brink of Collapse, for display at Vault Gallery in Newnan, GA (January-April 2026). This work marks a departure from her past approach by building a stand-along structure with an interior space that viewers may enter.
